Hear and Obey
I Samuel 3:9-10
Read the Bible Through:
I Samuel 3-4
Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth. I Samuel 3:9-10
Obedience is better than sacrifice. Samuel as he grew became a servant in the house of God. Eli’s sons were already trouble and God was looking for a young man willing to be obedient. Samuel first learned obedience from his mother, Hannah but also in our passage he learned it from Eli, the High Priest. Who gave him the advice that rings down to us in our generation, “Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth”.
What a powerful statement. Equally as powerful is that Samuel obeyed what God had told him. Many hear God speak but few really obey his voice. That old Hymn says, “Trust and Obey”. Do you Hear and Obey? There is no other way to be happy in Jesus.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for speaking! Help us to obey all you have told us to do.
